Originally founded in Rockhampton in 1967, the Central Queensland University (CQUniversity) was previously known as the Queensland Institute of Technology (Capricornia). During those times, the University was one out of a handful Australian institutes to pioneer delivery of distance education.

After a recent merge with CQ TAFE in July 2014, CQUniversity continues to be the leading distance education provider with half of the students opting the distance learning delivery method. Comparable with its rivals, a recent data released by Graduate Careers Australia shows that CQU students have some of the best graduate outcomes with an overall fulltime employment rate that is almost 10% higher than other university graduates.

Having recently established itself as a research focused university, the university is also getting ranked at and above the world’s standard in areas of agriculture, applied mathematics, nursing, medical and health sciences by the 2012 Excellence in Research Australia. It has also constantly maintained valuable partnerships with the government, community, and industry groups nationally and globally.
